Lockdown

While I was on a call for work, my governor announced that my county is being locked down - effective tomorrow (Friday the 13th!), all schools and non-essential businesses closed, no gatherings, etc. Only medical services and grocery stores will be open. The rest of the state has restrictions, but not as strong a mandate. (My county has the most cases in the state - but they claim no community transmission - yet.)

I've been getting e-mails all day from restaurants, airlines, hotels, and many other services, explaining the protocols they have in place to ensure the health of their employees and customers. One restaurant is offering discounted delivery, to keep people off the streets. My brother sent me a fitness app that is waiving their subscription fee to keep people out of gyms. I applied for a mail-in ballot so I don't have to go to the polls in a couple weeks.

Also yesterday, the NCAA said all tournament games would be played to an empty stadium. The NBA suspended the remainder of their season indefinitely - a player from the Utah Jazz has the virus. And possibly most upsetting to people, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson were diagnosed in Australia, where they are filming an Elvis movie. If nothing else, that seems to be the announcement that's gotten people's attention. Also, the MLB cancelled baseball.

I am surprisingly calm.
